Care staff shortages expected to reach 100,000 in 2021 Care home providers could
face staff shortages of 100,000 unfilled vacancies in 2021 Overseas staff are
crucial to the UK care home sector.
Home Care Managers are especially in Demand
salaries range from 35kpa - 45kpa in Pounds.
Home Office adds senior care
workers and registered managers to shortage occupation list, enabling migrant
staff to come and work in the sector.
Senior care workers and domiciliary care
managers have been added to the Shortage Occupation List. Commenting on the
news, UKHCA's Policy Director Colin Angel said: "We are pleased the Government
has taken on board the recommendations of the Migration Advisory Committee and
will add senior care workers and domiciliary care managers to the Shortage
Occupation List.
This will help solve part of a much larger issue which we have
called on the Government to address for a long time.
This will be extremely useful
for some social care employers, who should now find it easier in sourcing
candidates from outside the UK for hard-to-fill roles, including live-in
homecare." In the UK before the coronavirus pandemic, there was already a
shortage of around 50,000 nurses, and still, the healthcare system is nowhere
near bridging that gap.
Shortages of staff are widespread within the NHS and
exist across all disciplines.
The NHS is on the brink with too few nurses,
midwives, GPs, hospital doctors, and mental health workers.
38,000 are nursing
vacancies, that’s 1 in 10 posts.
Immediate workforce shortfall is so severe it
requires at least 5,000 nurses a year to be recruited from overseas.
Not enough midwives
There is a serious issue in the NHS with the shortage of midwives.
According to
the latest survey by the Royal College of Midwives (RCM), 8 out of 10 midwives
(83%) do not believe their NHS Trust or Board has enough staff to operate
safely.
Furthermore, 42% report that half of the shifts are understaffed, and a third
say there are significant gaps in rota There has been a 12% drop in the number
of mental health nursing posts.
Both psychiatry clinicians and psychologists are
listed on the Migration Advisory Committee’s list of occupations experiencing
staff shortages. A survey published at the beginning of 2020 revealed the
shortage of mental health professionals was leaving the service at ‘breaking
point’.
