IRELAND INFORMATION SHEET 

 

Looking for Doctors in Paediatrics/Emergency Medicine/Obstetrics and Gynaecology/Anaesthetics / Psychiatry, to name a few.

 

 Contracts are 6 months or 1 year, these figures are negotiable. 

 

Insurance for the Doctor is covered by the hospital. The salaries below do not include overtime and on-call pay (These figures are as of 03/10/2017 for exchange rate) SHO (Senior House Officer-junior Doctor) 

 

Annual Salary: 43,000 EUR – 59,000 EUR per year (R690,960– R948,065 per year) 

 

Monthly Salary 3,500 EUR – 4,900 EUR per month (R56,250 – R78,750 per month) 

 

Registrar (4+ years experience post-internship. 

 

SA doctors with 1-year post community service in Emergency Medicine could be considered for a registrar post). 

 

Annual Salary: 54,000 EUR – 64,000 EUR per year (R867,720– R1,028,360 per year) 

Monthly Salary 4,500 EUR – 5,300 EUR per month (R72,324 – R85,180 per month)  

Consultant ( completed a recognised fellowship programme (4 years). 

Specialist Registration would be required with the IMC). Annual Salary: 121,000 EUR – 157,000 EUR per year (R1,944,250– R2,522,700 per year) 

 

Monthly Salary 10,000 EUR – 13,000 EUR per month (R160,720 – R208,940 per month)

South African Doctors only require work permits and this can be put through in 2 weeks (this is paid for by the hospital). 

 

The following to apply: 

1.     SA trained South African citizens. 

 

2. A current and up-to-date CV and email address. 

 

3. Three contactable references including the telephone number as well as their valid email addresses. 

 

4. Proof of membership with the HPCSA, 

 

5. Professional Indemnity (not a must but encouraged) 

 

6. Valid police clearance certificate from every country you have lived and worked in for more than 6 months since the age of 18 years and a digital head and shoulders photograph. 

 

7. Valid SA passport (expiry not less than 1 year). If you are on an EU passport you will not require a work permit. 

 

8. You must have, or be in the process of registering with the Irish Medical Registration. This is to be paid at all times by the Doctor. For EC Doctors the client is open to IMC refund at the end of the contract for the annual registration. 

 

9. A brief summary of what you are looking for as a Registrar/SHO or Consultant and when you can start.

 Irish Medical Council (IMC) - Doctors who graduated before 2006 now no longer qualify for IMC unless they have done specialist exams. It is to do with the length of the internship year.

 

 Internship training will be recognized as equivalent to a Certificate of Experience awarded in Ireland if the applicant commenced their internship from 1st July 2006. 

 

In your internship, you will have needed to have done 3 months of General Medicine and 3 months of Surgery.

The British Council South Africa offers IELTS tests in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth on various dates throughout the year.

 

 (Please note all doctors are now required to write the IELTS test (English Language proficiency test) – an overall score of 7 is required). 

 

Flights are for the Doctors own account. No posts for Nuclear Physician, Occupational Therapists, Pharmacists, or Dentists at the moment. 

 

It is possible to work as a GP in Ireland, normally locum work. No posts for Radiation oncology.

 

There are occasional posts for Registrar Oncology but they would be expected to do on-call in General Medicine. FAQ Q. 

 

What is the cut-off age to work in Ireland? A. Cut-off age to work in the public sector is 65 years. 

 

Q. Who is entitled to join you in Ireland? 

A. Your spouse, children, and any dependent family member. Your spouse would not be entitled to work in Ireland unless he/she is on an EU Passport or has a job offer in an occupation listed on the Critical Skills work permit list. 

 

Schooling is free in Ireland with a voluntary contribution, you would have the expense of school uniform and books. 

 

Q. Is accommodation covered for Doctors? 

A. Accommodation is not covered however for Emergency Center (EC) Doctors a living allowance is possible.
